The property

This spacious detached stone cottage with pool is situated in a quiet hamlet and has the advantage of being within walking distance to the magnificent 40 hectare Lake Rouffiac - which boasts a large beach and has many watersport activities such as swimming, tele-ski, canoeing and kayaking. A five minute drive will take you to the historic village of Payzac which is situated high on a hill top with picturesque views and has many attractions for the holiday maker: Two excellent restaurants, 2 bakers, a bank, cafes, bars, an antique shop and a large supermarket.

Outdoor Area

The large garden is completely private and enclosed and the spacious terrace to the rear of the property overlooks the swimming pool and surrounding countryside. The above ground 9m x 4.5m swimming pool has a sunbathing area with sun loungers and is fenced off for security. The pool is filtrated with salt water.

The Local Area

Nearby is one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" – the medieval village of Ségur le Château with its noble houses which are dominated by the ruins of the ancient castle. The small town of Pompadour is also worth a visit – with its fairytale chateau – a gift to the mistress of Louis XV – Madame de Pompadour. Pompadour is also the capital of the Anglo-Arab horse and you can visit the chateau terraces and hippodrome.  Flat and steeplechase races are held from June to September and the national traditional carriage driving competition is held on the last weekend in August.

A ten minutes drive from the cottage and you find yourself in the pretty, historic market town of Saint Yrieix la Perche on the Haute-Vienne/Dordogne border.  Saint Yrieix has many cobbled lanes with interesting shops to explore and the train station at Saint Yrieix has regular trains direct to Limoges. Explore La Cité (the old City) in Limoges, which includes Saint-Stephen Cathedral, and take a stroll round the Bishop's Palace and gardens. Explore some mysterious underground passages: the Limoges Tourist Office organises guided tours. The city of Limoges has lots to offer for the tourist: Visit the Musée de l'Evéché, which presents one of the largest collections of world-famous enamels. The Museum also boasts a wide range of Impressionist paintings by Renoir, who was born in Limoges.  Nearby - discover the Resistance Museum which shows the history of Limoges during the Second World War.

The cottage is also ideally situated for visiting the prehistoric sites of the Perigord and the renowned valley of the Dordogne. This is a region of unspoilt landscape with outstanding views, rolling hills, lakes, rivers and lots of designated walks
