Walking Distance to the Historic Village of Payzac

Payzac, Dordogne, France

This spacious, character cottage (110m2) is situated in the 'Perigord Vert' region of the Dordogne: An area of outstanding natural beauty which has the added advantage of being within easy reach of many tourist attractions. It's almost like stepping back in time as the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and unspoilt with rolling hills and valleys, fairytale chateaux, medieval villages and prehistoric caves. There are also many rivers and lakes to explore and most famously - the wonderful restaurants boasting dishes of truffles and foie gras.

The cottage is within walking distance to the historic village of Payzac (pictured right) where you can have a 5 course lunch (including wine) at one of the village restaurants for as little as 12 euros!!

If you enjoy walking, you can take a stroll each morning to buy your fresh croissants for breakfast from one of the two excellent bakeries in the village and the River Auvezere is a short walk away which can be accessed by a footpath. The river is a popular spot for fishing and Tourist Fishing Licences can be obtained from the local newsagents or supermarket at a small cost.

The Cottage

The cottage is situated in approximately 4 acres of grounds which was once a working farm and the abode of a local dignitary - whose initials can be seen in the intricate wrought iron work on the master bedroom balcony .

Named 'Le Petit Vallon' because of its stunning hillside location - overlooking the 'little valley' and to the village beyond where you can see Payzac church tower. The owners Mike and Jenny live next door and (although respecting Guests' need for privacy) are 'on hand' if needed. It is completely independent and has its own private parking area, washing line and garden..

The cottage also boasts an 8 megabit broadband internet (ADSL) connection which is included in the price.

PLEASE NOTE: Duvets, bed linen and towels are included in the price. We regret pets are not accepted.

The Local Area

The historic town of Pompadour is only ten kilomtres away. (See photo left). Situated on the route of Richard the Lionheart, the whole area is steeped in history and if you take a short detour - a visit to the medieval village of Segur le Chateau (classed as one of the most beautiful villages in France) is well worth a visit.

Pompadour is dominated by the magnificent Chateau which was a present to, and once the home of, Madame de Pompadour - favourite mistress to Louis XV.

The town is also famous for the Pompadour National Anglo-Arab Stud, headquarters of the French National Stud and has regular horse racing events. It is also an International equestrian eventing centre. Click here for more information on the area.
